MB World Group donates sewing machines to Kechara Soup Kitchen
9 March 2020 – In conjunction with International Women’s Day on 8 March, MB World Group Berhad through its subsidiary Crystal Faber Sdn. Bhd. contributed 5 portable sewing machines and 3 storage racks worth about RM5,000 to Kechara Soup Kitchen Johor Bahru in support of their women empowerment programme.
Founded in 2006, Kechara Soup Kitchen is a non-profit organisation aimed to provide food, healthcare and education to the homeless and the urban poor. Its empowerment programme provides complimentary sewing skill training to single mothers or women from underprivileged families.
After they have attained the skills, the charitable organisation will provide them a portable sewing machine to produce fabric products such as bags, pouches, hand towels and rugs made of upcycled materials to earn extra income for their families. Amid the Coronavirus outbreak, the sewing machines were also used to produce personal protective equipment (PPE) for the front-liners.
